Organize the Pantry by Meal, Not Category
Most pantries are organized by aisle of the grocery store — pasta with pasta, beans with beans. Reorganize by meal and you'll cook more, throw less.
Steps
- 01Empty the pantry. Wipe shelves.
- 02Make four piles: breakfast (oats, coffee, jam, nut butter), pasta night (dry pasta, canned tomatoes, olives, anchovies), grain bowl (rice, lentils, sesame oil, soy sauce), baking (flour, sugar, vanilla).
- 03Each pile gets one shelf or one section.
- 04What didn't fit a pile — donate or finish this month.
- 05The same shelves, the same things. But now you reach into 'pasta night' and dinner appears.
Notes
- — Re-evaluate every six months. The piles will shift as your cooking does.
