How to Wash Real Silk
The label says dry-clean. The label is being cautious. Silk wants cool water and a gentle hand. The dry cleaner is for emergencies.
Steps
- 01Fill a basin with cool water. Add a teaspoon of pH-neutral, silk-safe detergent (or baby shampoo).
- 02Submerge the garment, swish gently for 2 minutes. Don't rub.
- 03Rinse in clean cool water until no suds remain.
- 04Press water out gently between two clean towels. Never wring.
- 05Lay flat on a dry towel away from sunlight. The fibers are protein; sun bleaches them.
- 06Iron on the silk setting while still slightly damp, on the reverse side.
