Polish Tarnished Silver With Foil and Soda

No silver polish, no rubbing. A chemistry trick that lifts tarnish in three minutes.

Steps

  1. 01Line a glass or ceramic dish with aluminum foil, shiny side up.
  2. 02Place tarnished silver pieces on the foil — they must touch the foil.
  3. 03Boil enough water to cover the silver. Pour over.
  4. 04Sprinkle in two tablespoons of baking soda per liter of water. It will bubble.
  5. 05Wait 3 to 5 minutes. The tarnish transfers from silver to foil.
  6. 06Lift out with tongs, rinse in cool water, dry with a soft cloth.
