Clean and Keep the Wooden Cutting Board

Never the dishwasher. Two minutes a day, ten minutes a month, and the board outlasts the kitchen.

Steps

  1. 01After use: scrape off bits with a bench scraper or knife edge.
  2. 02Wash with warm soapy water and a brush. Rinse, stand on edge to air dry.
  3. 03Once a week, sprinkle with coarse salt and rub with half a lemon. Rinse. The salt scrubs, the lemon kills bacteria.
  4. 04Once a month, when the board looks dry or faded, oil it. Rub a tablespoon of food-safe mineral oil all over with a soft cloth.
  5. 05Let sit overnight. Wipe excess in the morning. Board looks new for another month.
