A Window Box of Pansies

The first plant of the year that survives a frost. Pansies hold on through April surprises.

Steps

  1. 01Buy a small pack of pansies — six or twelve plants, mixed colors or one shade.
  2. 02Fill window box with a mix of regular potting soil and a handful of compost.
  3. 03Plant 5cm apart, soil up to the leaf line.
  4. 04Water until it drains from the bottom. Then leave alone for two days.
  5. 05Deadhead the spent blooms — pinch them off with your fingers — and the plant keeps blooming for six weeks.
