- 02Morning of — roast and blend the soup. Make the cake.
- 03Hour before — root vegetables in the oven, lamb resting on the counter.
- 04Hostess gift: a beeswax candle, or a small jar of fig jam.

- — Menu: roasted squash soup with brown butter, a lamb shoulder slow-cooked with rosemary, root vegetables, a pear and almond cake.
- — Drinks: a soft red wine, a cider for those who don't drink wine.
- — Table: a runner in deep rust or burnt orange linen, persimmons and small pumpkins down the middle, beeswax candles.
