Winter rooms feel sad under the same lighting that worked in summer. Three swaps and one habit fix it.

  2. 02Buy or borrow a small dimmable lamp — the kind with a USB plug. Place it on the floor behind the couch for ambient backlight.
  3. 03Light one candle on the dining table at dinner, even when eating alone. The flame asks the day to end.
  4. 04Habit: turn off the overhead light at sunset. Use only lamps for the last two hours of the evening.
