A Citronella Candle in a Glass Jar

The bought ones are over-perfumed and over-priced. The real version smells like lemon, not chemistry.

Steps

  1. 01Save a small jam jar — empty, washed, dried.
  2. 02Buy: 100g soy wax flakes, a wick (2cm taller than the jar), 20 drops of pure citronella essential oil.
  3. 03Melt wax in a heatproof bowl over a pan of barely simmering water.
  4. 04Off heat, stir in citronella oil.
  5. 05Place wick at center of jar — secure with a clothespin laid across the rim.
  6. 06Pour wax in slowly. Let cool overnight.
  7. 07Trim wick to 6mm before lighting.
